KOIK Contemporary presenta la exposicion individual Dreams [Sueños] por la
Artistx Invitadx en Residencia Jay Lee.

Jay Lee, originaria de Seúl Corea, comienza un viaje desde 2021 por territorios físicos y emocionales en los que va descubriendo nuevas facetas, motivaciones y gestos que conectan con sus decisiones y experiencias de vida. De Seúl a California, pasando por varios estados de US, y llegando finalmente a México. La artista encuentra en el arte una inspiración para crear no solo un cuerpo de obra, sino un entendimiento distinto de la vida y sus procesos. En esta exposición se conjuntan al menos tres momentos que se ven plasmados en los motivos que inspiran sus piezas, así como en su uso y exploración con los materiales. Por un lado, las raíces y memorias de su pasado en Corea del Sur. Por otro, su paso por Estados Unidos como momento de re descubrimiento de sus sueños, a la par de la naturaleza y la posibilidad de replantear su camino. Finalmente, su estancia en México, y la oportunidad de construir una nueva idea de hogar y cercanía desde las conexiones con la naturaleza, las personas y los espacios. Todos estos momentos están conectados entre sí al modo en que la primavera conecta a la Ciudad de México con Seúl mientras las jacarandas y cerezos florecen al mismo tiempo.
En esta exposición se exhiben cinco instalaciones inmersivas en diversos formatos, que exploran la idea de paisajes emocionales y evocan la experiencia de una atmósfera sutil y la ligereza que hace a las cosas elevarse, brotar y florecer. Así como once pinturas en pequeño formato realizadas con papel reciclado y una en papel mixto. Tanto su entendimiento del espacio, como su uso y elección de materiales tienen una conexión con su viaje y exploración personal. Para Jay Lee su
práctica artística es una práctica vital.
Dreams es una travesía por los sueños y la imaginación que invita a experimentar la vida como un viaje siempre abierto.

KOIK Contemporary presents the individual exhibition Dreams [Sueños] by the invited artist in residence.

Jay Lee, originally from Seoul, Korea, begins a journey in 2021 through physical and emotional territories in which she discovers new facets, motivations, and gestures that connect with her decisions and life experiences. From Seoul to California, passing through several US states, and finally arriving in Mexico. The artist finds in art an inspiration to create not only a body of work but a different understanding of life and its processes. This exhibition brings together at least three moments that are reflected in the motifs that inspire her pieces, as well as in her use and exploration of materials.

On one hand, the roots and memories of her past in South Korea. On the other hand, her time in the United States was a moment of rediscovery of her dreams, alongside nature and the possibility of rethinking her path. Finally, her stay in Mexico, and the opportunity to build a new idea of ​​home and closeness from the connections with nature, people, and spaces. All of these moments are connected to each other in the way that spring connects Mexico City with Seoul as the jacarandas and cherry blossoms bloom at the same time.

In this exhibition, five immersive installations are exhibited in various formats, which explore the idea of emotional landscapes and evoke the experience of a subtle atmosphere and the lightness that makes things rise, sprout, and flourish. As well as eleven small-format paintings made with recycled paper and one on mixed paper. Both her understanding of space and her use and choice of materials have a connection to her journey and exploration.

Dreams is a journey through dreams and imagination that invites you to experience life as an ever-open journey.
